The room

Training is the stress
recovery is the progress

Most people who stall aren't training too little — they're recovering too little. Infrared heats you directly rather than heating the air, so it runs gentler than a traditional sauna, around 45 to 60°C. Comfortable enough to stay in long enough to matter.

Why bother

What regular use tends to do

01

Less soreness

Heat increases blood flow to worked muscle, taking the edge off after heavy lower body or a first week back.

02

Easier sleep

The drop in core temperature after you leave is a strong sleep cue. An evening session is the one most people feel immediately.

03

Looser joints

Warm tissue moves better. A short sauna before mobility work is a genuinely good use of ten minutes.

04

Cardiovascular load

Heart rate rises much as it would during light steady-state cardio — useful on rest days.

05

A circuit-breaker

Fifteen minutes somewhere warm and dim with nothing to do is not a small thing at the end of a long day.

06

A reason to stay

The sauna often turns a rushed session into a proper one. Plenty of members build the whole visit around it.

How to use it

A simple protocol

If you've never used one, start conservatively and build up. There's no prize for sitting in longer than you're comfortable with.

First time
10 minutes. See how you pull up the next day.
Typical
15–20 minutes, after training.
Frequency
2–4 times a week is where most of the benefit sits.
Before
Drink water. Shower. Bring a towel to sit on.
After
Cool down slowly, then rehydrate properly.
Skip it if
You're unwell, pregnant, or have had alcohol.
SMAI foam rollers and mobility equipment on the matted recovery area
Mobility

Rollers, mats
and floor space

A full set of SMAI foam rollers sits with the matted area, along with the space to actually use them. Ten minutes on a roller after squats does more for the next session than another set would have.

  • SMAI foam rollers, smooth and textured
  • Trigger point and massage balls
  • Stretching mats and open floor space
  • Resistance and mobility bands
  • Free to use, no booking, any hour

Not sure where to start? Any coach on the floor will walk you through a few.

House rules

Keeping it nice

  • Always sit or lie on a towel — it's a shared cedar bench.
  • Shower before you go in. It keeps the room fresh for the next person.
  • Training gear stays out. Swimwear or clean, dry clothing only.
  • Keep calls and speakers outside. Quiet is the whole point.
  • Don't pour water on the heaters — this is infrared, not steam.
  • If it's full, give the person inside their twenty minutes.
  • Wipe rollers and mats down when you're finished with them.
  • Feeling lightheaded? Step out straight away and sit down.
Locker corridor leading toward the change rooms and recovery area
Access

Finding it, getting in

The sauna sits at the end of the locker corridor, past the change rooms, with the mobility area out on the floor. Both are included with every membership — no booking, no extra charge, no limit on how often you use them.

If it's your first time, mention it at reception during staffed hours and someone will show you where everything is.

Please note

Sauna use isn't right for everybody. If you're pregnant, have a heart condition, low or high blood pressure, are taking medication that affects heat regulation, or you're recovering from illness, please check with your doctor first. Never use the sauna after drinking alcohol, and leave immediately if you feel dizzy or unwell. Under 16s aren't permitted in the recovery room.
